How To Become Your Child’s Greatest Influencer (2 of 6)

HOW TO BECOME YOUR CHILD’S GREATEST INFLUENCER? (Video 2 of 6)

It’s been said, “You can produce a family, but that doesn’t make you a father. You can be married, but that doesn’t make you a mate. You can even be a male, but that doesn’t make you a man.”

Many parents love their children, but they have very little influence. Why is that? Because the formula for influence looks more like, LOVE + TIME = RELATIONSHIP.

In the busyness of life, trying to make ends meet and balance all of our competing priorities, we lose sight of the most important things, don’t we? Are we spending quality time with our children? Are we making them feel special and appreciated? Are we there to celebrate the things that matter most to them? This is a great day to reflect on those things.

I’m sure you’ve heard the staggering statistics of what usually happens to children from fatherless homes. 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes. 90% of all runaway children are from fatherless homes. 85% of all children with behavioral disorders are from fatherless homes. 71% of high school dropouts are from fatherless homes. 75% of all adolescent chemical abuse patients in drug treatment centers are from fatherless homes. 85% of all young people in prison are from fatherless homes.

Fatherlessness is an epidemic in America and across the world, but praise God we have an answer with the help of the Lord, with His truth, and with the fellowship of His Church. The fathers in this room have beaten the odds.

Recently, at youth camp, one of the speakers asked young people to stand up if their parents were still married, and only about 50% or fewer young people could stand. Thankfully, nearly all of our young people could stand. And it is because their parents had godly parents who made their marriage work, and they are showing their kids that marriage is worth fighting for.
