To God Be The Glory by Andraé Crouch (feat. Ted Thevaos)
This old gospel song released in 1972 has been a Christian music favorite for years. My parents, Pete and Rosalind Thevaos, had several Andraé Crouch records that I grew up listening to after I landed on the planet in 1975. I was drawn to this music, but to play it seemed like an insurmountable obstacle. It wasn’t until a few months ago that I heard my friend Marcos Witt play this song in El Paso, Texas at a Charles Nieman conference at Abundant Church. I became determined to learn it. I lowered it a whole step from C to Bb and away I went. I posted the chords on my website because they are some tricky jazz chords that don’t stay in the key of Bb. This song is a masterpiece in how it takes you to four levels of dynamics, which is very rare anymore in worship music. But that’s ok, we’ll just occasionally play the oldies.
